This year will mark the third year in a row that we’ve done our trick-or-treating at an indoor shopping mall. I know it sounds lame, but this is so worth it. The stores don’t give out stickers or coupons. We get major goodie bags, and everyone there is totally into the Halloween mood.
Tonight, I realized an added bonus to this indoor Halloween tradition. It’s much safer. New numbers were released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that show kids are four times more likely to be hit by a car on Halloween night than on any other night of the year! It does make sense, considering what they’re usually doing – running through streets in the dark.
So this shopping mall is my little protective bubble around my boys on Halloween. I’ll keep doing it as long as they’re young enough to think it’s cool, because we have fun, and more importantly, we’re safe.
Plus, I get to window shop while I trick-or-treat. Who can say no to that?
